Day 1 June 30 Truck delivered, unloaded and parts inventoried. Cab Removed, 42 boxes stored along with a bed load of miscellaneous part.
Day 2 July 1 Up to page 21 – Lower Control Arm painted and some assembly. Brake calipers painted
Day 3 July 2 Page 42 Attached the left side Controls Arms and Shocks / Right side ready to install. Two trips to Autozone for grease plugs (not included), one call to FFR to identify shocks. Directions not good
Day 4 July 3 Page 48 Finished installing the right side Upper/Lower Control arms and shock. Put together the left side spindle, connected to ball joints and installed the hub. Discovered I had a piece wrong and now I have to remove the lower ball joint to get it off. Need to buy a ball joint removal tool.
Day 5 July 4 Page 57 Trips to NAPA (closed), AutoZone and Advance Auto finally made a ball joint separator out of two different ones. (Bought 3). Finished the passenger side spindle and hub and installed the calipers, brakes and rotors to both sides.
Day 6 July 5 Page 58 More trips to parts stores returning parts, picking up gear oil, made a shelving unit to hold parts that were stored on the truck bed. Finalized torque on front suspension, Attach rear end next time
Day 7 July 6 Page 68 Had to buy a 5/8” drill bit – mine wasn’t big enough. Changed the front springs to #400 and assembled the rears. Searched for the rear mounting bolts only to find they are supplied in the rear Control Arm packaging. Maneuvered the rear end into position under the truck. Complete the eyebolts on all rear pcs.
Day 8 July 8 Page 71 Added upper and both lower control arms – still need to torque them. Made runs to two parts places looking for control arm bushing sleeve, nothing – working on the one I had and finally was able to clean it up to accept the bolt with a round rat tail file.
Day 9 July 9 Page 76 Final install of Upper and Lower Control Arms. Installed rear shocks to frame, need to connect to LC Arms. Installed Pan Hard Bar. Spent a lot of time on bushings on the LH Shock.
Day 10 July 11 Page 92 Rear brakes don’t work, rotor has too much offset no mater what FFR says. Katy and Cam helped drip holes on the firewall and riveted . Still to work on lower foot box firewall. Added oil to rear end and finished torquing the driveshaft adapter.
Day 11 July 12 Page 94 Completed drilling and riveting the firewall and both kick boxes. Painted Red. Still no answer on the rear brakes not working, haven’t been updated on the missing fuel sending unit and maybe have a lead on fixing the rear shocks from the FFR Forum. Rack and Pinion install next.
